My paper will be a consideration of the ways in which poetic practice may counteract the contemporary tendency – and quite often, political pressure – to dematerialize. Through readings of the work of CA Conrad and others, I will argue that poetic practice acquires its political valence precisely to the extent that it is can activate the material tensions and contradictions present in immaterial production itself. This engagement with both the materiality of bodies and social sites within an expanded horizon of immaterialization, can contribute to the debate about what poetry is able to accomplish in the present, both aesthetically and politically.
